Raktim Sen is an electronics engineer, music composer, lyricist, orchestral arranger, theatre director, and passionate advocate for the arts, based in Atlanta, Georgia. A graduate of Bengal Engineering College, Shibpur (now IIEST, Shibpur), he earned his Master’s and Ph.D. from Clemson University, South Carolina.
Music has been a lifelong passion for Raktim. His musical journey began in childhood and continued through formal piano studies at the Calcutta School of Music. Over the years, he has composed original songs, music, and theatre scores, drawing inspiration from a diverse range of traditions—from Hindustani and Carnatic classical music and Western classical music to jazz, rhythm and blues, and contemporary sounds. His original compositions are available on major digital platforms, and he is a Spotify-verified artist. His passion for music and arts comes from his Mother, who was a Sitar and Esraj player.
A strong believer in the power of theatre to bring people together, Raktim is the founder of Atlanta Theater Workshop (ATW), an organization dedicated to nurturing Bengali theatre and the performing arts in the Atlanta community. As a director, organizer, and acting coach, he has been instrumental in bringing numerous productions to the stage. His directing credits include Rabindranath Tagore’s Raktakarbi (Red Oleanders) and Dakghar (The Post Office), Badal Sircar’s Ballabhpurer Roopkatha and Ram Shyam Jadu, along with several other productions, including four original plays written by him.
Beyond theatre, Raktim has played an active role in promoting Indian music and culture in Atlanta. He is the co-founder of IACA’s Atlanta Indian Idol singing competition and Rhythms of India, programs that have provided platforms for emerging talent and celebrated the richness and diversity of Indian performing arts. He is also an active member and a past president and Board Chair of the Bengali Association of Greater Atlanta, supporting its cultural programs and community initiatives.
Raktim also brings his leadership and commitment to the broader community. He currently serves as Chairperson of the Board of Leadership Needed Foundation, a nonprofit organization working with historically Black colleges and universities (HBCUs) in the areas of innovation and entrepreneurship.
Through his work as an artist, director, organizer, and community leader, Raktim Sen continues to build bridges between cultures and generations—using music, theatre, and the performing arts to inspire creativity, foster community, and keep Indian and Bengali cultural traditions vibrant in the United States.

My Varied World of the Arts
My Music
I have been composing since I was in middle school. I first stint was to set to tune five songs of a children’s play, “Shahure Mama” by Sunirmal Basu when I was a 7th grader. Since then I have continued to compose songs and scores of plays. This is a home for some of my published work.
My Stage Productions
With over 50 stage productions, it almost seems that I spent more of my time on stage or preparing for one. I enjoy working for the stage since I feel it is the ultimate culmination of all forms of the arts. It is a platform where appreciation (or rebuke) is instantaneous!
My Writings
Writing is an avenue of self-expression available to anyone who wants to pursue it. It is extremely low-cost… you need a pencil and paper, and available more readily to all ages. No wonder I took to writing very early… first poems then, short stories and songs.
Et cetera
Lighting design has been an integral part of all my productions. The shadow art that my mother taught got me interested in the art of lighting design. I also own a decent recording studio where I plan to spend more time going forward. I made a couple of documentary films.
