The Creative Process
The well-known Dilbert cartoonist said, “Creativity is allowing yourself to make mistakes. Art is knowing which ones to keep.” To me nothing is more true. When I write, words don’t flow easily. When I compose and arrange, I constantly struggle with finding the right melodies, chords and counterpoints. This is true for any creative work I do. At the end, when I find what I am looking for, it is gratifying too. I don’t envy anyone who can compose a piece in three minutes and arrange it in five because I can do it too. But that is just my starting point and for my ears only…
